After 20 years in prison for a murder he says he did not commit, Jessie McKim had his sentence commuted last week by outgoing Gov. Eric Greitens.
However, the former Boone County prosecutor who helped put him behind bars maintains that was a mistake and that McKim is guilty.
McKim, now 52, since 1999 has been serving a life sentence for first-degree murder in the death of Wendy Wagnon of Kirksville. Over the years, evidence of an inaccurate ruling the part of a medical examiner, prosecutorial misconduct and witness credibility were all stated as reasons for a new trial.
Those request were repeatedly denied by appeals courts.
