Republicans should embrace marijuana legalization and gay marriage to show voters they are serious about their message of greater individual freedoms, attorney Jennifer Bukowsky said Friday evening to a gathering of GOP activists.
Approximately one-quarter to one-third of the audience of about 125 people attending the “Freedom Fair” applauded Bukowsky’s comments, but those who did so were enthusiastic.
The message being sent on those issues, she said, is clear — support for marijuana legalization has increased 20 percent among Americans in recent years and support for gay marriage now stands at 59 percent nationwide.
“Both these issues are liberty issues, and Americans want liberty,” said Bukowsky, who this month was elected president of the Boone County Bar Association.
