Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Knight today dropped charges against accused murderer William Clinch and then refiled them as attorneys were to begin selecting jurors in the first-degree murder case. The maneuver delays the trial for Clinch.
Knight said he had been surprised by a judge’s ruling yesterday that would have allowed evidence about victim Jeremy Bohannon into the trial to apparently pave the way for a defense asserting that Clinch killed the father of three to prevent Bohannon from abusing his children.
Bohannon’s ex-wife is Clinch’s sister, and police said the two men feuded for years before the 2007 shooting death in a McDonald’s restaurant parking lot on Clark Lane.
